The Sophistikeys were founded in 2010, with the mission of provoiding a space for girls at Carrboro High School to come together through a shared love of singing. Carrboro High School had only opened its doors in 2007 and The Sophistikeys were the second a cappella group formed at the school and the first single gender a cappella group.

In 2013, The Sophistikeys performed in the first annual High School A Cappella Showcase hosted by the University of North Carolina Loreleis and has performed in every consecutive showcase since. In 2014, The Sophistikeys were part of Carrboro High School's first end-of-the-year a cappella jam, alongside Carrboro's coed and all-male a cappella groups. The Sophistikeys co-hosted the second incarnation of this event in 2015, which was titled "The Pajama Jam" and drew audience members from all over Chapel Hill and Carrboro.

In Feburary of 2016, The Sophistikeys hosted "The CHCCS A Cappella Jam" which featured 7 different a cappella group from all three local high schools. The event raised over $1100 for arts funding at Carrboro High School.

In May of 2016, The Sophistikeys recorded their first album - entitled "Omen" - at Modern Recording Studio in Chapel Hill. It was recorded, mixed and edited by Chris Stamey and featured six full length tracks, all of which were arranged by members of the group. "Omen", was released on June 3rd at 'The Sophistikeys Final Concert', which was held in the theater at The ArtsCenter, in Carrboro instead of in the CHS auditorrium. "Omen" is now available on iTunes, Spotify, Loudr, Bandcamp, and right here on our website.
